CeramOptec announces new line of Fused Silica Fiber bundles

Bonn, February 15, 2005 - The new PowerLightGuideTM series of bundles developed by CeramOptec is capable of transmission rates of practically 100%. This exceeds significantly the previously available 80% rate that was caused by fiber-clad -sections in the cross -section area. Numerical apertures as high as 0.66 can be manufactured.

Thus, the bundles are excellent replacements for glued bundles or liquid light guides, providing higher transmission ratios over much longer distances for the whole spectrum from the deep UV (ultraviolet) to the NIR (near infrared). The fused ends can withstand high temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius. They are rugged and ready for use with high power lasers or pump diode lasers as well as high intensity UV lamps. Applications are temperature sensing in high temperature environments, spot curing, wafer fabrication, and transmission of high optical power levels. Patents on the new designs and products are pending.

CeramOptec manufactures a wide range of specialty fibers and fiberoptic products for industrial, military, and medical use in its plants in East Longmeadow (MA, USA), Bonn (Germany) and Livani (Latvia). A proprietary plasma process is used to manufacture the necessary preforms guaranteeing amongst other exceptional UV transmission and stability. The companies are part of biolitec AG (Jena, Germany), listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange (ISIN DE0005213409).
